What is the Seal of God?
The book of Revelation talks about the seal of God in the foreheads of the saints. But what is the seal and what is the significance of being marked in the forehead? The Seal of God and the Mark of the Beast are vital issues in the last days that we live in now, and to know the truth about the seal and what the mark is, is of utmost importance. Many Christians are waiting for a 'physical' mark to come along, but we believe that God's seal and the beast's mark are both 'spiritual' marks and in this site we will show you from the Bible why we believe this to be so.
We need to let the Bible, the very Word of God tell us what these marks are, rather than going along with the world's view on it. Don't forget, satan is doing his utmost to insert error into these teachings to deceive as many people as he can. This is why we need to be rooted in God's Word, and if we are rooted in His Word, then God will reveal the truth and we shall not be moved by the evil one. So what is this seal in Revelation?
Important Note: We teach that we are saved only by the grace of God the Father, through faith in the righteousness of Christ Jesus His Son. The grace of God is a free gift, and as such cannot be obtained by our works. BUT those who are "under grace" should naturally produce works towards God's law as evidence of their faith in Jesus. We keep God's law out of love for Him. And God knows who His people are - The one's who are obedience to His will and are being sanctified. A mere profession of faith without true conversion is vain and useless.
Revelation 7:2-3 ...'And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.' ... So, the servants of God receive a 'seal' in their foreheads.
Revelation 13:16-17 ...'And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.' ... And those who follow the beast, receive a 'mark' of the beast.
So we know from prophecy that there will be two groups of people during the Bible end times. One group serve God and receive the Seal in their foreheads, and the other group follow the beast and receive the Mark of the Beast. Do we want God's seal or the beast's mark?
Revelation 14:9-10 ...'And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb.' ... I think we want the Seal of God right? This is one of the most urgent warnings in the Bible. And it is the only time that the wrath of God is poured out WITHOUT mixture. What does that mean? Well, when God pours out His wrath upon people, it is always MIXED with mercy. But here at the end time, God will remove His mercy and those who follow the beast of Revelation 13 and receive the mark, will receive the full wrath of God WITHOUT mercy.
Take a look at this shocking warning!! ...
Ezekiel 9:4-10 ...'And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city. And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem? Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not. And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.'
Study the 9th chapter of Ezekiel. These words will be literally fulfilled; yet the time is passing, and the people are asleep. They refuse to humble their souls and to be converted. Not a great while longer will the Lord bear with the people who have such great and important truths revealed to them, but who refuse to bring these truths into their individual experience. The time is short. God is calling; will YOU hear? Will YOU receive His message? Will YOU be converted before it is too late? Soon, very soon, every case will be decided for eternity." (E.G. White, Letter 106, 1909, pp. 2, 3, 5, 7. (To "The churches in Oakland and Berkeley", September 26, 1909.) E. G. White Manuscript Releases Volume One, p. 260)
Notice the "mark" in Ezekiel 9? This is the seal of God. Now the question is, are you sighing and crying for the iniquity of God's professed people? Do you lament over your own sins? Are you humbling yourself before God and turning away from sin and clothing yourself in Christ's righteousness? This is a serious issue friend, because those who do not feel grieved over their own sins, nor mourn over the sins of others, will be left without the seal of God.
This is an important issue because anyone who receives the mark of the beast, as Revelation 14 tells us, they will receive the full wrath of God and will be thrown into the lake of fire at the end. So we must be open to let God teach us the Bible truth on this and not to be influenced by the teachings of man. So what is the Seal of God? We know that those who truly serve God and follow Jesus will be sealed, but is it enough just to "know" that? Or should we be trying to find out exactly what the seal is? I think we should! After all, we certainly don't want to end up receiving the mark of the beast and be thrown into hell fire.
Revelation 14:1 ...'And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.' .... So those who receive the God's seal, have our Heavenly Father's name written in their foreheads. Now, do these people have a literal tattoo of God's Name on their foreheads? Some Christians seem to think that this is a literal mark. Just like they think that the mark of the beast is a literal mark because the word "MARK" in Revelation means 'a mark'. Well, in Revelation 17 John also sees a woman riding a beast and on her forehead was the name 'Mystery Babylon the Great' ... 'And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.' ... Now I'm sure no one doubts that this isn't an actual prostitute woman riding around the earth on a beast, with that name tattooed on her forehead. Also, in Revelation 13, we find two beasts causing the earth to worship them. Now the meaning of those words "beasts" are literal beasts. So are we to believe that there will be literal beasts roaming the earth causing the people of the world to worship them? No, I don't think so. Revelation is full of prophetic symbols and this woman and these beasts are just some of them. The name on her forehead is also symbolic, the same as the name of God on the servants foreheads. So we are dealing with a 'spiritual' seal or mark.
Is the Name of God the Seal?
The name of God (seal of God) ... is it just a literal name, a word, or does it have a deeper meaning than that? ... Exodus 34:5-7 ...'And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.'
The Lord passed by Moses and declared His name. As you can see above, this isn't just a name that God is revealing. He is revealing His CHARACTER; merciful, gracious, longsuffering, forgiving, just. These attributes of character are referred to as 'the name of the LORD'. And we can see that Jesus confirmed the same ... John 17:6 ...'I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.' ... Jesus hadn't just pronounced God's name correctly, He revealed through His earthly life the true CHARACTER of our Heavenly Father. So when it says in Bible prophecy that those who serve God will have their Father's name in their foreheads, it means that His attributes of character have become a deep part of their thinking and actions. This is why the "forehead" (our mind) is where we receive the seal of God.
"Love is expressed in obedience, and perfect love casteth out all fear. Those who love God, have the seal of God in their foreheads, and work the works of God." (SD 51, 1894)
Revelation 14:12 ...'Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.' ... In the last days, God will have a group of people that are keeping His Ten Commandments and the faith of Jesus. Did you notice something in the above verse that many people miss? Many professing christians ignore the ten commandments and say that we just need to keep the commands that Jesus gave in the New Testament. Well, what does it say above? The commandments of who? GOD! But they ALSO have the faith of Jesus. And notice the saints are not just keeping faith IN Jesus, they keep the faith OF Jesus. They don't just believe in Him, they FOLLOW Him.
So what has the seal of God got to do with His Commandments? Take a look at the following verses:
Isaiah 8:16 ...'Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.'
Exodus 13:9 ...'And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD's law may be in thy mouth.'
Deuteronomy 6:1-8 ...'Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.'
A sign and a seal are the same. Take a look at Romans 4:11 ...'And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith.'
The true servants of God Keep the Bible Ten Commandments, and they receive a seal, or a sign that they are God's people. God didn't want the Israelites to physically write His law on their heads or hands. What the above verses mean, is that God wanted His law INSIDE their minds. He wanted them to think about His Law each day, so that they would not sin against Him ... Hebrews 10:16 ...'This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them.' ... His Commandments would be IN our minds.
1 John 2:3-4 ...'And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.'
1 John 5:3 ...'For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.' ... As you can see, the true servants of God obey Him and keep His Commandments. God knows they are His and they receive His seal. Therefore, to receive the Mark of the Beast, you have to go against God and His law. The people at the end who receive God's seal will be keeping ALL TEN Commandments, including the Sabbath commandment, and the people who receive the mark of the Beast will NOT be keeping His commandments, because the beast has caused them to go against God's Law and obey man instead.
So at the end, just before the second coming of Christ Jesus, we will have two groups of people. The one group who yield their minds to the beast and receive the mark of the beast, and the other group who yield their minds to God and will have the seal in their foreheads.
Does God reveal to us in even more detail what His seal is? Well, let's define what a seal is. The seal of a king contains 3 things; his name; his title or claim of authority; his region of rulership. Let's take an example: 1. Barack Obama 2. President 3. United States of America. Now what is the purpose of a seal?
Daniel 6:15-17 ...'Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed. Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.' ... So the seal of the King confirms that his command cannot be changed by anyone.
Does the Law of God contain a sign or seal?
Within God's ten commandments, is there any commandment that tells us who we worship? Yes, the 4th commandment. Did you know that the sabbath commandment is the only commandment that tells us who we worship? If you take away this commandment, then we would not know who is the lawgiver and who we are to worship. The 4th commandment contains God's "signature", if we can put it that way. So what is one reason that God gave us the sabbath commandment?
Exodus 31:16-17 ...'Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.'
Many Christians will look at this and say that this was just for the Jews. What they fail to realize is that Christianity is a CONTINUATION of the Jewish religion ... Romans 9:6-8 ...'Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, they which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.' ... Would you say we (Christians) are the "children of the promise"? Of course we are. So we are now the children of Israel.
So the Bible Sabbath day is a sign of God or seal, revealing His authority as the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and by keeping it, we are proclaiming Jehovah, our One true Creator, as the God we worship. Now take a look at the 4th Commandment ...
Exodus 20:8-11 ...'Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.'
Did you see the seal of God in this Commandment? His name: The LORD; His Title or Authority: Creator; His area of rulership: Heaven and earth.
The 4th Commandment is the ONLY Commandment that reveals WHO we worship.
So the 4th Commandment proclaims the seventh day (Saturday) to be the Sabbath Day of the LORD. To confirm this, God has set His seal on this Commandment, showing that it cannot be changed by anyone on earth. Let's face it, God knew that the antichrist system (Roman Catholic Church) would come in and change His law and try to get man to worship it, instead of God. And this is why God fixed His seal to His law, which is obtained spiritually by those who obey His law and worship the one true God on the very day that He specified in the Ten Commandments. The true saints are those who keep the Commandments of God, including the Seventh Day Sabbath and they obey and proclaim His authority, rather than the beast. And the reason that the sabbath will become the sealing issue, is because that is the only command of God that the majority of the professing Christian world rejects and have been deceived upon by satan.
We do not receive the seal of God by just keeping the 7th Day Sabbath
Do we receive the seal of God if we just keep the fourth commandment? No, we need to keep ALL of God's ten commandments to be sealed. As Jesus revealed, if you break just one of them you are guilty of breaking all. But the Sabbath issue will be the end time test for God's people, when the Sunday law is enforced.
Just as Adam and Eve were tested by God when He placed ONE specific tree in the garden that they could not eat from, He has placed ONE specific day in a week that we are to rest on and devote entirely to Him. And when the mark of the beast is enforced, we will have a choice to make. Either to bow under pressure and submit to the beast's mark, (economic pressure, not being able to buy or sell), or we stand firm in Christ Jesus by obeying Him and rejecting the mark, and therefore receive the seal of God. If we do this, if we stand firm upon God's holy law, then He WILL provide for us, even if we cannot buy food to eat. God will turn the stones into bread!!
So the Sabbath commandment is God's stamp of "authority" and approval upon the ten commandments, showing that it is He, the Creator who has given these commands and that they cannot be changed. It contains His "signature" as to who we are to give our allegiance and worship to. The sabbath itself isn't the seal that we receive in the forehead. We are sealed by God's Holy Spirit by fully submitting to our Creator and Saviour and walking in ALL His ways. But the Sabbath commandment WILL be one of the final tests placed upon the world to see who TRULY belongs to God.
Will you obey God and receive His seal, or will you follow the beast and receive it's mark? Remember, those who receive the mark of the beast will be thrown into the lake of fire and be destroyed. But those who receive the seal of God will inherit eternal life!
